Welcome to Orono Middle School

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK:

OMS parents, friends and community members,

Last week we had an excellent start to the school year. It was great to welcome our newest students and families to OMS and to see all the smiling faces as we kicked off the 2024-25 school year. Linked here is the September 2nd  Edition of The Crimson Chronicle - our weekly parent newsletter. The Crimson Chronicle is updated each week during the school year and sent out to parents via school messenger at the start of each week.

As we begin the school year I want to thank parents who already updated student information packets this summer. Parents can access directions and other information about how to complete the start of the school year paperwork by clicking here.

One important reminder  in our student handbook is our updated cell phone policy.  This update to our OMS Parent/Student Handbook for 2024-25 (page 25) is as follows:

  • To help students and staff focus on the important work of school we require student cell phones/ear buds to be turned off and kept in student lockers during the school day. The OMS staff recognizes that cell phones can be professional tools of learning. With teacher permission and supervision students may be asked to retrieve cell phones from their lockers for any number of educational activities including but not limited to: coding, photos of handwritten/drawn visuals, sharing resources, effective communication, and use of a variety of apps. Cell phones must be returned to student lockers following completion of the educational activity. If a student is unable to follow this protocol parents will be contacted, and the personal cell phone may need to be kept at home.”

Wishing all a fantastic and productive week ahead.

Sincerely,

Richard Glencross, OMS Principal
