OMS Chess Team
Congratulations to the OMS Chess Team for winning the Maine State Chess Championship on Saturday, March 10 at the University of Maine in Orono. As the state of Maine Chess Champions, the OMS Chess Team participants are in Atlanta, Georgia, this weekend competing in the National Tournament. We wish the students the best of luck as they compete for the national championship!
OMS Math Team
The OMS Math Team competed in the final spring math meet of the year on Wednesday, March 28 at EMCC. Out of nine competing regional schools, OMS won the title of Eastern Maine Math League Champions for the 2017/2018 school year!
Congratulations to the following teams: 6th grade teams placed 1st and 5th, one 7th grade team placed 3rd, and one 8th grade team placed 1st.
OMS Math Counts Team
The OMS 8th Grade Math Counts team finished in 2nd place at the regional competition.
Orono Middle School Jazz Band
Orono Middle School’s first Jazz Band received a Silver Award for having a 1-rating (score of between 90-94 out of 100 points) at the State Instrumental Jazz Festival. In addition, 9 students received 1-rating certificates. Congratulations to all of the OMS Jazz Band!!
OMS spellers worked as a team and finished in 2nd place at the PVML competition on February 27th.
B Team – Girls Basketball
The OMS B Girls Basketball Team won the PVML Sportsmanship Award.
A Team – Girls and Boys Basketball
The Boys A Basketball Team placed second in the A Flight tournament.
The Girls A Basketball Team won the B Flight League Championship.
OMS Cross Country Team
Both the boys and the girls cross country teams returned from Orrington on Tuesday, Oct. 17, as champions of the Penobscot Valley Middle League. The boys bested runners-up Holbrook Middle School, 41-69, as well as the other six teams in our conference. It is the first PVML title for the Orono boys. The girls beat a very talented Center Drive School team, 25-36, as well as the other six teams. It is the fourth PVML title for the Orono girls, all in the last four years.
The cross country team also earned the PVML Sportsmanship Award, as voted on by all the coaches in our league. The team members have made OMS and the Orono community very proud. Congratulations to our OMS runners and coaches on a very successful season.
